Regenerating the dentin/pulp complex; Are we getting closer to predictable clinical outcomes?

Regeneration of the dentin/pulp complex is no longer considered a far-fetched dream. Since the term “regenerative endodontics” was coined in 2007, there have been numerous advancements propelling the field further. On the other hand, there are still numerous challenges such as achieving sufficient disinfection while maintaining stem cell viability as well as developing the right scaffold that can trigger endogenous tissue regeneration in an attempt to simulate naturally existing dentin/pulp tissues while minimizing the risks of advanced intracanal calcification. In this presentation, we will present an overview of the current status and challenges facing the continued clinical translation of regenerative endodontics and shed light on novel biologically-derived scaffolds that may be considered as potential scaffolds for dentin/pulp regeneration.
