Objective : The objective was to study the periodontal status of patients with neurological diseases at the CHU-Point G.
Materials and Method : We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study based on the observation of the periodontal status of patients with neurological diseases received in the neurology department of the CHU-Point G over a period of one year. The data were entered and analyzed with Word and Excel 2019 and the French version of SPSS 22 software.
Results : We collected 205 patients, 59.51% of whom were outpatients. The male gender represented 70.0%, with a sex ratio of 1.23. The age group of 41-50 years represented 20.5%, a mean age of 45.43 years and extremes of 2 and 85 years. Housewives represented 33.7%. Stroke was present in 57.1% of patients with a history of hypertension in 34.6% of cases. Patients complained of muscle aches and seizures in 5.4% and 8.3% of cases respectively. They had an average plaque index in 29.8% and gingival inflammation in 43.9% of cases. Gingivitis was found in 39.51% and halitosis in 34.63% of cases. Patients had not consulted the dentist in 62.9% of cases and had a need for treatment in 46.3%, including 22.4% for code 2
Conclusion : The study revealed a high frequency of periodontal diseases and a need for improvement of oral hygiene, management of these pathologies in order to improve their health and quality of life.
